Choose local search terms for Shopify Markets

Use different terms for Germany and Switzerland on a German-language product and review the suggested SEO fields before publishing.

Practical guide

Can two markets use different search terms in the same language?

Yes. Give Ranklate your preferred terms for the language, then add terms for the specific market. Select the destination market when running Optimize SEO. You can review each suggested title, meta description and URL handle before publishing.

Steps in the app

  1. Choose a product sold in both markets. Collect the terms customers actually use in each market from store searches, customer messages or your own keyword research.
  2. Keep shared product facts and brand names consistent. Enter market terms separately so the SEO suggestions can reflect local wording where it reads naturally.
  3. Open the search preview. Read the suggested title and description together, check that the product still matches the wording and accept, edit or request another suggestion.

Worked example

For an illustrative German-language bicycle catalog, you might test Fahrrad in Germany and Velo in German-speaking Switzerland. Keep the model name and specifications identical. Validate each term against your own customers’ searches before you use it.
